Wall hangings

Before partition, when ladies attended a wedding or special feast they would wear beautiful costumes exquisitely embroidered by hand with metallic threads and Indian mirror work; the intricate patterns would vary from village to village, and the predominant colours were gold, silver, orange and pink.

After partition these were no longer worn, but the original costumes were kept, and in Rajasthan, the desert state of India, they are now remade into stunning patchwork wall hangings. Each wall hanging is a unique work of art.

The patchwork pieces are stitched on to black calico and couched together with black muslin; the metallic threads and mirror work catch the light reflecting a visual feast of pattern and colour. At Davmar we offer these traditional Indian wall hangings in predominant colours of either gold or orange.

These superb wall hangings look fantastic in any setting be it old or new, no modern wall hanging would hold a candle to these precious items which literally reflect the traditions and finest embroidery skills of the world renowned Rajasthan textile heritage.

These Indian wall hangings come in 2 approximate sizes – 40ins. x 60ins., and 25ins. x 50ins. Each wall hanging has loops along 2 sides at the back to enable easy hanging - portrait or landscape to suit your wall space.
